What IS this blog??
Good question.
I am in the process of listening to and reviewing my entire collection. I have about 4000-6000 songs, not really that much if I were to break it down into albums. And I could, theoretically, review them all quickly. It wouldnt take foreve to listen to a cd a day.
Im not that sort of girl. First I had to sort them, then tag them. THen I have to label and categorize them. Then, if I like a song, I may write 5 or so pages on it.
I write about the lyrics (the poetry), the SOUND of the lyrics (the flow), the music, the beat, the combination of it all.
A month later, I’ve only played 3 new songs and STILL have thousands begging me to play them at least once.
So, I came up with a plan. I WILL listen to every song. I will write what I think; not for you, for me, SO I can remember which song had good cowbell or yearning vocals or what have you.
I also sort of like to push salsa (and other music), so as I go through my collection, I pick things I want to make encourage the world to hear.
And of course, you will soon discover that I dont really like to talk about music so much as I like to use music as a vehicle to discuss other things that interest me- racism, sexism, sexuality, blah blah blah. *shrug*
I dont know the answers to half (a conservative estimate) of the questions I ask myself. But I like asking the questions and Im willing to go out on a limb and guess at answers. I encourage myself to THINK, and the process is ultimately more important to me than the answers.
Thats a disclaimer of sorts, if you read something here, dont assume it is factually correct. Append the phrase ,”In my opinion, which counts for little because Im neither musician nor scholar” to every post.
